My name is Marie Söderberg, I am 24 years old and come from the town of Oskarshamn, in the south of Sweden. Since autumn 2008 I am studying ensemble management (in plain speech conducting), flute, singing and piano at Ingesund College of Music in Arvika, Sweden.
My goal is to become a professional conductor, both in wind- and symphony orchestras as well as choirs.

Mitt namn är Marie Söderberg, är 24 år och kommer ursprungligen från Oskarshamn. Studerar sedan hösten 2008 ensembleledning (i vanligt tal kallat dirigering), tvärflöjt, sång och piano vid Ingesunds Musikhögskola i Arvika, Värmland.
Är allätare inom musiken men lockelsen just nu är att utbilda mig till dirigent för alla typer av större ensembler, såsom blås-, symfoniorkestrar och körer.
Last spring I had the opportunity to conduct an ensemble at Ingesund College of Music, whilst rehearsing and performing the musical "Sweeney Todd", with music by Sondheim.
The work was exhaustive and independent. The task involved finding members to the orchestra, learning the music by heart, writing all scripts, organizing the rehearsals, rehearsing with both the orchestra and the singers, collaborate with both technicians, the stage-manager and the orchestra and finally conduct eight public performances at Ritz in Arvika.
In June 14-21, I was accepted as one of six conductors to the advanced level at a masterclass lead by the worldfamous conductor Piero Bellugi from Italy. The masterclass ended with a concert in which I conducted Mozart No.35 – "Haffner Symphony" at the "Merkin Concert Hall - Kaufman", in New York.
Between the 1-9 December I was accepted as one of seven conductors at a masterclass in Rome, also lead by Maestro Bellugi. The last four days we worked with the professional "Orchestra Sinfonica Tiberina" and the masterclass ended with a concert in which I conducted Mozart No.29, Kv201 (see portfolio).
To pay for the masterclasses I have thankfully been given several scholarships during the year.
Fick under våren 2010 leda Ingesunds musikhögskolas uppsättning av musikalen Sweeney Todd, en 2h och 45min lång musikal med musik av kompositören Sondheim.
Mellan den 14-21 juni 2010 kom jag in som en av sex på en dirigeringsmasterclass i New York, ledd av världsklassdirigenten Piero Bellugi från Italien. Kursen avslutades med att vi fick dirigera var sitt stycke i "Merkin Concert Hall – Kaufmann". Stycket jag dirigerade var Mozart No.35 – "Haffner Symphony".
Den 1-9 dec. kom jag som en av sju in på en dirigeringsmasterclass i Rom, också denna ledd av Maestro Bellugi från Italien. Kursen avslutades de sista fyra dagarna med en proffsorkester vid namn "Orchestra Sinfonica Tiberina" och en slutkonsert där jag fick dirigera Mozart No.29 Kv.201 – "Menuetto" (se klipp i portföljen) och "Allegro con spirito".
För att finansiera ovanstående masterclasses har jag tacksamt erhållit flera stipendier.
I started this last semester by working with Ingesunds new guestprofessor Ale Möller and his band. I rehearsed with and conducted a symphony orchestra added with acoustical guitars and electric bases, in a total of 100 people (see parts of the concert in portfolio).
My main teacher in orchestral conducting at Ingesund College of Music this autum has been Johannes Gustavsson since 2011.
Last autum I also started a mentorshi with Cecilia Rydinger-Alin, professor of orchestral conducting at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm.
For one month in spring 2011 I was in Gambia together with five other students from Sweden exploring their african music.
Höstens första skolvecka fick jag möjligheten att jobba tillsammans med gästprofessor Ale Möller och hans band samt dirigera en symfoniorkester, utökad med bland annat akustiska gitarrer och elbas, på tillsammans 100 personer.
I skolans regi inledde jag under hösten 2011 fördjupade studier inom dirigering med dirigenten Johannes Gustavsson.
Inledde också under hösten ett mentorskap med Cecilia Rydinger-Alin, professor i orkesterdirigering vid Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm, ett mentorskap som varit väldigt givande och utvecklande.
Våren 2011 inleddes med att jag i ett samprojekt mellan musikhögskolan Ingesund och Högskolan i Oslo tillsammans med nio musikstuderande från Ingesund och Oslo fick åka till Gambia mellan den 8 jan. - 5 feb. Avsikten var att i skolans regi fördjupa våra kunskaper om afrikansk kultur och musik.
During my education at Ingesund College of Music I have had the opportunity to conduct some of Ingesunds ensembles, among others the Ingesund Chamber Choir, the Ingesund String Orchestra and the Ingesund Wind Orchestra.
I have also been a guest conductor in the Arvika Music Corps, the Arvika String Orchestra, and the Arvika Chamber Choir. I have also started up four new choirs in Arvika. Two adultchoirs and two for children of different ages.

Den 2 maj fick jag reda på att jag efter tre provomgångar kom in som den enda på dirigering - kandidatnivå på Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm. Men valde att tacka nej för att först ta min examen på IMH.
Med tvärflöjten genomförde jag den 5-9 juli en masterclass för Cecilie Löken.
Slutligen har jag båda åren med tvärflöjten, som ju är mitt huvudinstrument, genomfört väldigt många konserter, framförallt i kyrkor runt om i Småland.

It all began when I was five years old and started to sing in the childrens choir back home.
At the age of nine, I began playing flute in Oskarshamn´s Music School and the year after I started to play the piano for the church cantor. The youth orchestra, Oscars Symphonic band and the county brass orchestra got me as an engaged member.
At several occasions I have performed as a soloist with the stringorchestra "Camerata Nordica", which had the main purpose at the time to popularise classical music among young people.
The summer of 2001 was my first time on a summermusiccamp, which was a marvelous experience! After yearly having an instrumental audition I thereafter was excepted to "RUM:s National Team in Windmusic" between 2002-2005. 2006-2007 I played with "Nordic Youth Orchestra" in Lund, Sweden.
I have participated and played in several orchestras during the years, and I have had many happy memories to look back at. Especially when it comes to all the foreign travels I have made to among others the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands and Finland. The Netherlands was a bit special because the World Championship in wind music was taking place there, Kerkrade 2005. Together with "RUM" we succeeded to get a goldmedal!
Det startade när jag som 5-åring började sjunga i kyrkans barnkör. Vid 9-års ålder började jag spela tvärflöjt vid Musikskolan i Oskarshamn och året efter piano för kyrkans kantor. Ungdomsorkestern Flying Notes, Oscars Symfonic band, Länssymfoniorkestern och Länsblåsorkestern i Kalmar län fick i mig en engagerad medlem.
Har vidare vid många tillfällen spelat tillsammans med Kalmar läns egen stråkensemble "Camerata Nordica", då vi besökt skolor i länet för att popularisera klassisk musik. Halmstad 2001 var första gången jag, i RUM:s regi, var på ett sommarläger, vilket var fantastiskt roligt. Blev efter årliga provspelningar uttagen till "RUM:s Landslag i Blåsmusik" åren 2002-2005. 2006-2007 spelade jag i Nordiska ungdomsorkestern i Lund.
Jag har medverkat i en mängd olika orkestrar, med många fantastiskt roliga minnen på köpet. Inte minst från alla utlandsresor till bl.a. England, Tyskland, Polen, Nederländerna och Finland. Nederländerna var dock lite speciellt då världsmästerskapen i blåsmusik gick av stapeln där, Kerkrade 2005. Tillsammans med RUM lyckades jag kamma hem guldmedaljen.
With my flute I have played as a soloist in churches, together with the cantor and church choirs, and in weddings and funerals. I have also played at certain gaderings, such as scholarshipfundations and foreign visits etcetera.
I ended my two years of pre-college studies at S:t Sigfrids folk college in Växjö, Sweden, with my own production of Prokofjevs "Peter and the Wolf" at Palladium in Växjö the spring of 2008.
Med tvärflöjt, som ju är mitt huvudinstrument, har jag också sedan 15 år tillbaka spelat som solist vid gudtjänster, tillsammans med kantorn och kyrkokörerna och vid bröllop och begravningar. Har också spelat vid olika sammankomster för Oskarshamns kommun, såsom stipendieutdelningar, utländska besök mm.
Vid mina två år på S:t Sigfrids folkhögskola i Växjö som föregick Ingesund, spelade jag i Växjö blåsorkester och Kalmar/Kronobergs läns Hemvärnsmusikkår. Avslutade studierna inom tvärflöjt och dirigering med min uppsättning av Prokofjevs musiksaga "Peter och Vargen" på Palladiumteatern i Växjö våren 2008.

Under mina tre år på musikhögskolan Ingesund har jag fått leda några av skolans större ensembler, bland annat Ingesunds kammarkör, Ingesunds stråkorkester och Ingesunds blåsarsymfoniker. Jag har även, vid ett flertal tillfällen, medverkat som gästande dirigent i Arvikas stadsmusikkår, Arvikas stråkorkester och Arvikas kammarkör. Har också i Arvika startat upp en sjukhuskör, en kommunkör, en barn- och ungdomskör samt en barnkör i afrikansk musik.
